Adela and Mile – a beautiful seaside wedding…

Two days ago I had the pleasure to capture Adela’s and Mile wedding in Šibenik and those two are the sweetest, kindness people I have ever met.

Adela’s little niece was the ring-bearer and she was simply adorable with her little pink veil – look at her striking a pose for me:

In the middle of the Solaris Hotels Resort is a replica of traditionally decorated Dalmatian village – perfect for a shoot location:

The wedding ceremony was held at St. Jacob’s Cathedral in Šibenik where guest were greeted by singing of Dalmatian klapas:

I’ve never been to St. Jacob’s Cathedral before and it took my breath away – no wonder it’s on UNESCO World Heritage List:

The wedding reception was at hotel “Vrata Krke” where they danced for the first time as husband and wife:

The newlyweds wanted to surprise the guests with the same-day wedding slideshow so after capturing the first dance I found a quite place and put together this video – enjoy:

Ode to Autumn…

My favourite season has always been autumn. My friends would disagree – most of them prefer summer (the sea, the holidays, the high temperatures), but not me. There is something magical in autumn. I love Every.Single.Thing about it – changes in nature, multi-colour leaves, harvests, warm sweaters and scarves, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine, sound of rain, fog (yes, even the fog… regardless the horror movie)… I could go on forever.

The most lovable part of autumn is re-evaluating my goals set last December and seeing which one of them came true, which one were neglected and witch one became irrelevant. I’m in a middle of that re-evaluation and it’s a rollercoaster of emotions – happiness, sorrow, pride, shame…

Did I mention that I’m only on the middle of the list?

100th Blog Post + Styled Shoot “Back to the 50′s”

When I started this on-line journal on January 22^nd (less than a year ago) I honestly didn’t expect to reach 100^th Blog Post so soon. People tried to answer me out of it but (as usual) I didn’t listen to them; and I’m glad I didn’t… For those of you who trusted me in documenting special events in your lives and for those of you who read my babblings and tolerate my spelling mistakes, thank you. I hope there will be at least another 100 blog posts that will document my success/mistakes/failures/life in general…

To appropriately celebrate such a round blog post figure, I wanna share with you images from recently organised “Back to the 50′s” styled shoot. The shoot couldn’t have happened without all parties involved and I’m forever thankful for their support. We all put maximum effort in it and I think I can speak in everyone’s name and say we are more than satisfied with the end result…

Urban Bride: Styled Shoot

Two years ago, while I was on The Quest of finding the perfect wedding dress, a friend recommended Penelope wedding salon to me. I went there after visiting more than ten dress salons and trying on one zillion dresses already. To be honest – I’ve had it. All dresses looked alike and I was cranky (that’s an understatement). The reason why I still remember that salon is because of ladies who worked there (and still are). They un-cranked me (I’m not quite sure that’s a proper word), we sat down and talked about my wedding dress desires, they suggested witch model would suit me best… all in all, their kindness, patience and expertise was unforgettable. So, when idea of organising a styled shoot popped to my mind, Penelope wedding salon was the first salon I remembered. Luckily for me – they made my wish come true and borrowed me the needed dresses.

Before and After: a pop of colour…

I received a mail from college photograph about my post processing workflow. So, to make it short and sweet – first I upload my photos into Lightroom. And I looove it! Ever since I discovered it, I can’t take my hands off it. It works with both RAW and JPEG files and has amazing/simply-to-use editing tools (I even created presents to speed up my workflow). I don’t use Photoshop at all; I promised myself I would learn it one day…

The photo on the left is Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) with following settings: f/2.2, 1/500, 200 ISO, 50mm.  The photo on the right is altered in Lightroom using presents (like sharpening, temperature, softening the skin etc.):

With such a beautiful model you don’t need much alteration… Just a pop of colour

#82. Organize and photograph a stylized bridal shoot

Ever since I decided what my goals regarding photography are, I wanted to organize and photograph a stylized bridal shoot but, honestly, I had no idea how to do it… There is a wedding dresses salon in my neighbourhood and every time I pass by, I drool – they have the most amazing wedding dresses ever. Recently they published on their Facebook Fan Page new arrivals and there I saw HER – THE DRESS. I’m a sucker for ‘ 50s fashion and that dress looked like it travelled from the past. I wanted to photograph it. Badly. So badly I contacted the salon (after a week of thinking it through) and asked them if they would be willing to borrow me the dress. And they said YES. To me. They even suggested a model. Everything was organised in less than a week and today was the photo shoot day. A good friend of mine was the make-up artist (you already saw how Ines rocks here), Penelope wedding salon supplied us with the dresses (yes, 2 dresses!), the accessories and the model and yours truly was the photograph…

I have no idea how to thank all those wonderful people who participated in today’s photo session but THANK you. Truly, madly, deeply – thank you…

Wednesday Babblings: Take Four

It’s been a month since I last posted “Wednesday babblings”. A month. And the idea was to post every Wednesday. Shame.On.Me. The fact is that I’ve been quite busy (photography and non-photography related) but that’s not an excuse…

The biggest news this Wednesday is… (the sound of drums in the background) – I’m photographing a styled wedding shoot this Sunday! I wanted to do that in a long time but I had no idea how to organize it… It will not be “classical” styled wedding shoot cause we had to organised it in 3 days but I have all the important ingredients – the dress, the bride, the make-up artist and permissions to shoot in all locations I imagined. Can’t wait!

Second biggest news is… (again – the drums) – I have decided it’s time to make my own website. No, I will not do it myself (because it would look like a 4 year old painted it); I’m currently in the process of gathering offers and all (un)necessary information – so, if you have any smart advice… I’m listening… And all I have to do after that is to decide how it will look like. Piece of cake. Not. I have a feeling my head is gonna burst…

Something sweet for the end… The ever so talented Alex Beadon (check her work here) published another „Edit This Photo“ post; she posts a high resolution file and asks people to edit it and send it back to her. And the results are amazing. You can’t believe how creative people get regarding post-processing. Here is my contribution:

Maternity – Ana

365 days extraordinaire…

A year ago I married my best friend. When you say it out loud, it seams such a long time ago but to me – it seems like yesterday. Nothing changed and yet – everything changed…

On our first skiing trip, the weather was horrible (and that’s an understatement) – the wind was blowing, the snow was falling so hard we couldn’t see 2 meters down the track and it was as cold as the hell itself froze. I hated it. And he? He looked up to the clouds and shouted “Briiing it onnn! Is that the best you can do?!?”… And the weather got even worse – of course… Two days after that, the sun peeped behind the clouds, the wind stopped blowing and it was like everything stood still; beautiful silence. That sentence became our life motto – come rain or shine…

Today I love him 365 times more than I did a year ago (and I thought that was impossible) and 365 time less than I’ll love him a year from now.

My love, I am proud to be your wife. Happy Anniversary…

#33. Shoot my first maternity sessions

I don’t remember when I first saw 101 in 1001 list, but I was thrilled! And since I’m a “List” person, of course I wanted to make that huge list of my goals. Duh. As I sat down and started to write my goals, my excitement started to wear off – it was much harder then I imagined… So I gave up. But the idea stayed in my head and every once-in-a-while it popped out. So I started again. And I gave up – again… But, the idea was persistent. And it popped out – again. That dance of ours lasted a couple of months until I sat down and wrote my first 101 in 1001 list. And you know what? It is one of the best things I did lately. For two reasons:

1. When I wrote my goals down they became real and achievable (as silly as that sounds) and I could see clearly what I wanted to achieve.
2. As I started to cross them out, one by one, it felt so good! And now, when I look back and see 17 of them have been completed – I feel even better.

One of the goals I especially was looking forward to was my first maternity shoot. I love pregnant women – they are absolutely beautiful with those big belies. So when I friend of mine said she would like me to photograph her 4 days before her due date, I felt like Christmas came early this year. We had so much fun yesterday and I can’t wait do process all photos. Till then, here is a sneak peak:
